Constipation. It happens to most people every once in awhile. Eating meals at regular set times helps the digestive system which will cause regular bowel movements. However, with busy schedules and daily chores it's easy to eat on the run and increase the chance of constipation. Here are a few useful home constipation remedies and tips that will help you get rid of constipation.

1. Eat fiber

It's important to eat fiber-rich foods every day. Fruits, nuts, seeds and vegetables contain insoluble fiber - a fiber that doesn't dissolve in water. When constipated, eat extra servings of fiber-rich foods. Some options are a fruit smoothie, bean soup or a fruit salad.

2. Drink plenty of water

Try to consume at least eight glasses of water or other healthy beverages. Liquids keep your body well hydrated, flush out toxins and help aid digestion. When your body isn't getting enough water, your digestive system can become blocked, making constipation worse. Try adding crushed ice or a lemon slice to your water to keep from being bored with plain water.

3. Elevate your feet and relax

Grab a magazine or a book and a small footstool. Experts at the Hartland Institute claim that by elevating your feet while sitting on the toilet, eases bowel movements. It causes your pelvic to shift. So relax, enjoy some good reading, and take your mind off of your constipation.

4. Try yogurt

Daily eating a half cup of yogurt helps maintain regularity. It contains active live cultures which assist with bowel movements. When constipated, eat a cup of yogurt. Add fruit and granola for extra fiber. Organic yogurt is your best choice.

5. Try charcoal

Charcoal is among the best home constipation remedies. Whether taken in capsule, form or powered form mixed with water it helps regulate the digestive system. When constipated, take the recommended dosage a half hour before each meal. Be sure to drink plenty of water. You may notice a discoloration in urine, but that's okay, the charcoal is working!

6. Regularly exercise

When possible, exercise at least 30 minutes a day to help with regularity...take a 10 minute walk in the morning, use a treadmill for a few minutes before dinner and take another walk at night. When constipated, go for a brief walk after meals.

7. Eat your grains

Grains are another great source of fiber. Consume whole grain breads, wheat pastas and oatmeal. Because we tend to have bowel movements earlier in the day, try baked oatmeal for breakfast. Mix oatmeal, milk (soy milk if lactose intolerant), raisins, and a chopped apple. Bake at 350 degrees for a half hour.
