Millions of people try diets every year and chances are you too have tried your fair share. While some “diets” have been proven effective and safe, most fail. The problem is that to lose weight, people need to stop “dieting” and instead, start eating healthy. Even so, new diets are constantly being developed and most are worthless, some even dangerous. Here is a list of the worst diets that have been introduced on the market.

1. Beef and bacon diet

One of the worst diets ever is the beef and bacon diet. For this diet, people were told to eat only beef along with very little carbohydrates, fruits, or vegetables, and not to worry about the amount of fat being consumed. While reducing or eliminating some carbohydrates, especially those from white rice and flour is a good thing, eating only large amounts of protein is dangerous. Too much beef has been shown to clog arteries, which leads to heart disease and heart attack/stroke.

2. Twinkie diet

Another insane diet involved eating only Twinkies and nothing else. While an occasional Twinkie is fine, the problem with this diet is the enormous amount of “empty calories”, meaning no nutritional value. Obviously, staying on a diet such as this even for a few days could result in long-term consequences.

3. Kimkins diet

Introduced in 2007, the Kimkins diet took dieters by storm. Interestingly, this diet was supported by someone named Kimmer who was not an actual medical professional. The diet banned exercise and encouraged people to eat no more than 800 calories a day. With this diet being so dangerous, the Food and Drug Administration sent out a warning and the website became involved in a class-action lawsuit.

4. Cookie diet

The cookies consumed for this diet are not your traditional homemade chocolate chip or oatmeal cookies but specially made cookies by Dr. Siegal. Even though several big name celebrities endorsed the cookie diet, it still remains as one of the worst diets ever. Consuming nothing but cookies is like the Twinkie diet in that there is no real nutritional value and the body is not getting the proper foods needed for sustentation.

5. Cabbage soup diet

– The Cabbage Soup diet has been around for a long time although it has gone through a number of variations. For this diet, a special soup is made with the main ingredient being cabbage. For seven days straight, nothing else is consumed. Unfortunately, people on this diet experience excessive gas and stomachaches and some have issues with dehydration caused by chronic diarrhea.

6. Snack pack diet

If you look in grocery stores, all types of delicious snack packs are sold, containing only 100 calories. These are great for dieters and even kid’s lunches, and the cookies, chips, crackers, and other snacks are delicious. However, eating nothing but snack packs does not provide the body with balanced nutrition.
